In this study, scientists found that by promoting the renewal of mitochondria, urolithin A can directly regulate immune cells and increase their anti-cancer ability. Through experiments in mice, we learned that urolithin A supplementation, combined with existing immunotherapy, can also treat tumors that are originally indifferent to immune checkpo intinhibitors.

Not only that, a few years ago researchers in California published an article in the American Chemical Society's Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry stating that pomegranate juice can search for and destroy prostate cancer cells.

According to PhysOrg, in a previous study, Seeram's research team found that drinking pomegranate juice was beneficial to increasing levels of PSA (a prostate antigen) in prostate cancer patients, and that elevated PSA levels are predictive of the "doubling time" in cancer development. The key indicator was that people whose PSA levels doubled in a short period of time were more likely to die from cancer. Pomegranate juice quadruples "doubling time."

In the new study, researchers found some evidence of pomegranate's "search and destroy" mode of action in laboratory experiments. Pomegranate juice is rich in ellagitannins (ET) antioxidants, which can be metabolized into urolithins. The researchers noted that urolithin was highly concentrated in the prostate tissue of mice with prostate cancer after pomegranate juice was administered orally or injected. They also showed that urolithin inhibited the growth of human prostate cancer cells in cell culture experiments.
